On 9 August 2016, two years to this day, Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem, Arman to his friends, was abducted by security forces in Bangladesh. His family has issued the following statement on the second anniversary.
"Two years back on this day Barrister Arman was abducted in front of our eyes and became a victim of enforced disappearance
We have repeatedly described that fatal night in numerous interviews so this post is to share the effect of that night in our lives. We want to share about how much we have been suffering throughout these two years in his absence!
Arman's daughters Taqwa and Marium miss their father each and everyday, even every minute from the day their beloved dad has gone missing. They call their daddy on his whatsapp number everynight before going to bed expecting he will definitely reply one day! His elder daughter was hospitalized a few days earlier due to high fever. All she was saying to her mother was " Will Daddy not even come today to see me?” Her mother was speechless . The girls are angry now about why daddy doesn't come to see them. Why he doesn't reply to their calls. How can daddy do like this! We are at a loss of words to make them understand the situation. Both his daughters achieved outstanding academic results this year and his younger daughter won the title of "Student of the Year" through her extraordinary performance in her class . All they want is to see their daddy return safe. We can't bear their teary eyes asking for daddy anymore!
On the other hand Arman's mother has become very sick thinking about him all these months and her condition is worsening with time . We can't comfort her anymore. She went everywhere possible and has knocked every door she believed could be in help to us to get back Arman.
My request and appeal to all concerned well-wishers and friends throughout the world would be to please continue to raise your voice and demand that the government #FreeArman. We want him back safe and sound. We are deeply worried and concerned about the state of his mental and physical health, about whether he has been tortured by his abductors, or whether his health has deteriorated; only the Almighty knows how he is doing now.
We demand his immediate release in good health and sound mind. If he did any wrong or was part of any illegal activity, then he is supposed to be brought forward to face a court of law and justice, and not be confined to the darkness of disappearance!
